The Bali Provincial Government (Pemprov Bali) will introduce a new policy regarding the Foreign Tourist Levy (PWA), where the Tourist Levy Voucher, which serves as proof of payment for the levy, will be required for tourists to obtain a boarding pass when leaving Bali.
This was announced by the Head of the Bali Tourism Office, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, during a press briefing at his office. To ensure smooth implementation, Pemprov Bali is partnering with several organizations, including SITA (Society of IATA Traffic Airliners), a global network that includes 36 major airlines.
Tjok Bagus explained that discussions are currently underway to formalize the collaboration.
“Hopefully, we can sign the MoU with SITA soon,” he said optimistically.
He emphasized that SITA will play a key role in reminding foreign tourists about their PWA payment obligations.
“Ideally, travelers should pay the levy before arriving in Bali, but if they prefer to pay after arrival, that’s also fine. However, if they try to leave Bali without having paid, they won’t be able to get their boarding pass. They must settle the payment first,” he explained.
This system is expected to significantly improve compliance with the levy. If implemented successfully, Tjok Bagus estimates that PWA collection efficiency could reach 95%, especially among passengers flying with airlines that are part of SITA.
“With this collaboration, we believe we can surpass our revenue targets. Last year, our target was IDR 250 billion, but we ended up collecting over IDR 318 billion,” he concluded.
